No Respect?
No one denies that Gates is a shrewd businessman - he cornered the market with an inferior piece of software and has been busy protecting and milking that position ever since. (Note I said software - not operating system.) He is smart enough that he owns substantial chunks of most of his competitors (including Apple) so he is in a win-win situation. It is great that he finally has found his human side and is using his profits to benefit society, but let's not make him an angel of technological development - the mantra does not fit him...
