Look Over here says Ballmer. Ah Zik See is the strategy
This article is not what Microsoft is doing. They are attempting to Oracle, SAP and IBM their way to the future by purchasing what were called solution partners and applying monopoly grease to take that market. The medical and legal markets are at risk. Both involve records, document imaging etc and no dominant software supplier.

In Seattle we had this company called Phamos. It did a decent job with MUMPS and was one of the bigger software houses in the area. I think it was purchased by DEX. In anycase MUMPS is what VistA open source is based on. The issue to be concerned with is the use of Gates Foundation money at the medical schools for "research" that naturally would tend to make Microsoft a favored vendor of medical software.

The Future of Software Design need not invlove Ah Zik See. Open Source really changes the cost benefit analysis that in the past favored purchased over in-house development. The Rise of the American Programmer is at had. These will be employed at the businesses where the software is operated, just like in the pre Microsoft days.

The Future is the Past. Division of Labor, Efficiency, Software developed to give a business strategic advantage and not just its officers a chance at a lucritive side deal.
