- Can you say Ma Bell?
- So this is it, we went to all that trouble to split Ma Bell into baby bells to increase competition and now Ma Bell is being allowed to return like the Borg by gobbling up her babies one by one? AT&T was once called the "long lines division" of Ma Bell, one of the most critical spinoffs to break her monopoly. Now they are the backbone of the internet and even more critical. Choice? Ha. In 1999 we had plenty of choices of ISP's in my home state starting at $10/mo. Now my isp domain has gone like flash.net/Prodigy/earthlink/yahoodial/swb/ATT and all without my doing anything, through gobbling up of the competition. Now we have only two choices for a DSL connection: ATT and COX cable both at the same $50/mo price. So much for this administration's "free enterprise" we hear so much about. "The only man who has true freedom of the press is a man who owns a press".
