Dell's Problems
Dell alienates those who can make it successful. The individual consultants and small computer repair shops throughout the world could serve as a great bridge between both individual consumers and small business customers.

Dell offers NO good partner program that benefits these consultants and shops and instead decided to just compete with them in the support industry.

Microsoft offers a great partner program and specifically its Small Business Partner Program is extremely popular and gaining momentum. What a philsophy for a nominal feel to the consultant and small shop they become experts and educated in Microsoft products Microsoft gives them all their software. What does Microsoft get...a worldwide sales force!

What should Dell do?

Establish a real partner program. Charge a small fee to join, then give the partner discounted pricing to try out Dell's great equipment and while these people are out supporting clients they say 'hey look at this great new Dell product.' Plus these partners would get express tech support assistance to a Dell support team that knows it's a consultant calling cutting to the chase and helping them resolve the clients issue without the typical scripts.

What does Dell get in return, cost savings by not having to invest in retail channels as they have a worldwide mobile sales force, decreased support costs as all the calls for spyware, viruses etc. are resolved by the consultant, the consultant is happier about the support timeline and therefore tells the world Dell products and support are fantastic!

Curious to see if others are waiting for this, I know I am. I'm one step away from recommending Dell and jumping onto the HP bandwagon because they do offer some of this.
