Jefferson did not write...
... the patent act of 1793. He had written his version in 1791, but it was considered too restrictive. He did not approve of the 1793 bill (though it incorporated some of his ideas), which allowed patenting automatically.

This regime lasted until 1836, when a more restrictive approach was legislated, though not as strict an approach as Jefferson's.

Jefferson eventually celebrated the inventiveness that the availability of money from patents produced.
