If you turn an enemy into a friend have you not defeated an enemy? If only our nation would apply this basic notion of the art of war.

But where we may not be able to influence the Bush Administration, influence of Microsoft management is possible. Consider the notion that every strength is also a weekness.

The buyback will be an E-bay like Dutch option where offers up to 24.75 will be accepted up until August 17th at which time Microsoft will pay out 20 billion. What is weak is that offers below 22.50 are to be rejected.

Microsoft is unwilling to buy its own stock at a price below 22.50. We should conclude that Microsoft isn't buying its own stock as an investment. This is stock price manipulation period, a response of some kind to preasures from large investors - like pension funds.

I do not invest in stocks currently. And this isn't a stock BLOG. But there are implications in the choices the IT industry will make regrading this news.
