First off, I'm pretty sure sparks don't fly out of cell phones when you make a call.

Until they have real evidence of a cell phone bringing down an airplane, you should be allowed to use one. Laptop batteries are more dangerous, and you can use that in flight... along with the internet. I'm sure if you have access to the internet in flight, you could use VoIP to place a spark-free call wink
