Oil companies are not necessarily 'morally appropriate'

but no one alternative source of fuel should be explored as a solution to future and current demands. Oil is not an infinite supply, and many countries are growing in need of energy supplies, for commuting and industrial/technology life, so, for any particular country or community, they need to investigate what their region naturally provides them, whether it be a rich oil supply, wind, geothermal, hydro electric damming/tidal wave generators, solar farms, better building codes and energy efficient designs/materials, and biofuels as well as reclamation technologies that create a fuel slurry from carbon based waste products. It would be grand to get rid of landfills instead of creating or outsourcing garbage to another state to "waste" land. Tires, organic matter including slaughter, dead plants, mafia hits not encased in cement, etc etc could be pressure cooked to a grade of useable oil.

Yes, there are many people needing to be fed. Shell would do well to try and inject relief programs into areas that the geo-political climate does as much damage as the land climate to people have a sufficient foodstock.

Another thing is genetically modified plants shouldn't, wouldn't be a problem for biofuels since a number of countries have bans and/or restrictions on the use of genetical modified foods entering the consumption market. If it can't be ground into a taco shell, Shell could certainly create a biofuel with the amazing genetically grown maize, or soybeans, or whatever scientists are splicing and dicing.
