"I just wish everyone would jump on a scooter (not motocycle) ride their bikes when the trip is under a mile or two"

For the vast majority of people living in the US, very few trips are under a mile or two. Five miles doesn't even get me to the nearest mini-mart. Cities are the exception of course, but much of the US is rural. I own two vehicles a 4x4 pickup and a small 4cyl (~30mpg) and that is the vehicle I drive daily. In the winter, if it snows, I need the 4x4. There have been times had I driven the car it would've had to sit in the road until I got the 2-3' of snow the plow pushed into my driveway cleared. If I were a single car household, it would most likely be an SUV type vehicle.

I do believe we need more low cost, high MPG vehicles on the market so more people can afford a second high mileage vehicle for general use but still have the SUV for those rare times they actually need it.
