Physics pays no heed
to politics. Ethanol will never be a viable alternative energy source. Direct solar power doesn't have enough energy density to power an industrialized society, and ethanol is nothing more than solar energy run through an extremely inefficient (5%) conversion process to chemical storage.

Utopian environmentalists can dream all they want and pressure politicians to policymake all they want, but, in the end, Physics is there like an immutable brick wall and you WILL smack against it. The only question is, how badly will it hurt you.
