American Techies Fear Competition.
I am continually surprised by how many tech people still don't understand globalization. It's over. Your competitors in the workplace are no longer local. And that is as it should be.

As for America's "superiority"? That is restricted to Military and Economic might. Not workers.

Americans fear "outsourcing", the fear "terrorism", they fear the "draft" and as this thread illustrates they fear H1B workers. One could make the case that Americans fear competition in general. (See United Auto Workers, the Airline industry, and more recently the Telco's)

The so called "race" to attract the "best and the brightest" is over. American universities (despite their world class standing) are now being challenged and in some cases eclipsed in the recruitment of science and technology students.

In 1973,Henry Kissinger said that part of his job as Secretary of State was to prepare Americans for the rise of the Pacific. That if the 19th century was the century of Europe, the 20th century was indisputably the American century. The 21st century belongs to Asia (Ok....the BRIC countries).

This is not "bad" news. Rather it is the way things are. Bemoan it or deal with it. America cannot change these historical forces.

Cheers,
Mike
