Who is thinking let alone rethinking?
I don't care how much security you build into software, this will never cure the security woes we face. Why? This is not the foundation of the problem. Responsibility has to be at the user level. With each new security feature comes a false sense of security for the user. There is already plenty of weapons at the user's disposal but the user has to accept responsibilty or these weapons become ineffective. This is why all of the improvements in security has resulted in a no more secure IT environment. It's only getting worse. The user must learn how to manage his technology or leave it alone. It is a powerful tool unlike any before it. Any tool of this magnitude has to be treated as such. Every industry requires education and certification before the tools of the trade can be used. This is how we make the work place safe. Safety features are built in but the user is still at risk without education and training, no matter how many safety features are added. No one but the user can ultimately prevent these tools from causing harm. No one but the user can make these tools productive. Why is this concept not applied to the computer? It is impossible to secure the IT environment without placing total responsibility at the user level. In the business world, the compouter is the most powerful tool, bar none. Why do we think an untrained user won't ultimately cut his hand off. And no amount of babysitting is going to prevent it. As software becomes more secure, more security problems arise. Quit focusing on solutions that aren't working and start at the foundation. When the foundation is strong, then we can build a strong house. Read my keystrokes - USER.
