You've been blinded...
Why is it Java's fault? Sun has done quite well with Java. And then you say it's also because of them open-sourcing their other stuff? They didn't open source Java...yet. So how does that matter? You need to wake up and realize that Sun had no choice but to open source Solaris, and that having done so, they actually stand to gain now. That move will help sell servers, as more people will try Solaris who would otherwise not...and then there will be the cross-sell opportunity.
