Actually Sun is not a Open Source friend
Unlike IBM, who has embraced open source and is making tons of profit, Sun makes silly steps in the direction and then messes it up. For example: Open Office. In truth Sun put the source code out there to get a chance at programmers to make their sellable product, Star Office, better. But they messed up. They stuck a LGPL on Open Office and then tried to force coders to sign a JCA in order to submit code. The JCA negates the LGPL! Open source coders won't touch it.

So Sun's problem is not that it pushed to open source, its problem is that it did it incorrectly and still does to this day.
