Bought a 2nd hand E Class Benz online
It is excellent - I've just had Benz look at it here and it is forecourt condition. But:
1. Made sure I spoke to the person beforehand
2. Made sure it had complete Benz service history
3. Spoke to the Benz people who had serviced it last;
4. Checked HPI (UK thing) if it had been in an accident or had outstanding finance on it - also made sure I had insurance from HPI that covered the cost of the car if either was found to be incorrect;
5. Did my own check of the car (as per the used car buyer's guides); and
6. Finally paid for it on credit card (paid back before interest kicked in) so that I was covered for 90 days by credit card.

All to get a car for about 20% less than through the car magazines. I made sure I had the cash first (saved like crazy for a few months) and didn't take out a loan. Until I got back the local Benz report, I was nervous as anything. Would I buy another car like it on ebay - yes. Would I buy a more expensive car on ebay - heck no!
