You have cause and effect mixed up.
First, you CAN buy Linux from both Dell and Gateway. And second, they don't sell many of them because there is very little market and the expence to support the very few just isn't worth the investment.

Both of these companies sell Windows on the machine because that is what the VAST MAJORITY want and it fits with their business model. The fortunate thing for you is there are hundreds of OEM's to choose from so all you need do is make a choice and go for it...
