I respect real programmers
I respect anyone who can put together a proper computer program; programmers have been putting together programs in languages like C/C++, Fortran, and even assembly/machine language for years, and they kept track of their data structures so exploits like buffer overflows rarely popped up, and when they did, they were flagged and fixed.

Today, too many programmers either aren't able or aren't willing to exhibit this level of competence, so they simply whine about not having "strongly-typed" languages that will hold their hand and try to fix their problems for them. Why respect a crybaby who doesn't know how to do their job? The real programmers still write close to the machine.

I guess I was a bit off-color with my "idiot programmers" remark, but I stand by the one on dumb mistakes; even very smart people make dumb mistakes. The trick is knowing how to deal with those mistakes when they happen, and rectify them.
