You're dead wrong.
First of all, those were not "hypothetical scenarios". Those were real examples taken from news articles. For example, an "address vs value" exploit was found in X-Windows just last month.


Yes, these are programming errors. No, the problem is not "idiot programmers". The problem is the use of an old, outdated language that hides simple errors because it cannot flag them at compile time. A heavily typed language will warn the programmer, and only allow him to proceed if he explicity tells the code to convert one type to another. Making it explict (if it needs to be done) makes it self-documenting.


Your analogy to drivers is really stupid, and shows you know no more of logical argument than programming. Be sure to remove from your car all safety features such as headlights, wipers, brakelights, turn signals, and seat belts. After all, you don't need them. You just need to be more careful.
