Well said.
I'm not sure what all the fuss and name-calling are in aid of, or what this has to do with Linux. It is quite common for companies to let go of contract employees during a financial crunch - though it is usually an end-of-financial-year thing.

It is not, however, wise. Those employees who are released in this fashion move on and find work elsewhere, and the business knowledge is lost.

What goes around comes around - the company that dismissed employees will eventually have need of skilled people. The problem is that in the meantime word has gotten around, and now staff will be reluctant to work for them. Recuiters, knowing them to be "bad" clients, will put them at the back of the line, and give priority to clients who pay their bills on time and don't make waves.

I have been a contract employee in one form or another for seventeen years. I have been let go in this fashion three times. I have not returned to any of those companies.
