What goes in TO making ethanol?
The cost to plant the seeds.

The cost to harvest them.

The cost to process them into the liquid used to burn.

All of these facets require oil.

Ethanol is not a long-term benefit, not by any measure. It's a pipe dream. A pipe full of crack.

Some reports claim certain types of algae produce a usable fuel. And that stuff is truly renewable and won't take away from the masses of hungry mouths on this sad planet. Of course, renewable isn't profitable... hence our increasing reliance on a substance we oughtn't be addicted to, because that industry's executives are too immature to realize that every industry has its day and theirs will come down the hardest of them all.

Had the oil barons looked into and patented all the alternative energy options, they'd still be rich and we'd still be able to prosper too.
