Greatest Story Ever Sold
I don't think Howard made the film to be about Catholics but rather to be about how to sell a story so well that jhads are fought over it for thousands of years. It is true, I carry OD identification in my wallet. But it is not Opus Deo - rather it is Office Depot. However its a good story that Frank is OD, On Drugs, Opus Deo, etc. Its something that Preston Gates and Ellis could use in lobby efforts against a fellow such as I. Its the selling of sickness.

The reference to Bill Gates in the book was left out of the film for an undefensable reason. Lack of that reference diminished the film because it really would have honed in Howard's message which is somewhat of a message Hollywood has been working on getting to the masses for some time.

Take the God Father films. These films portray the world as it really is - even though they are fiction. The same might be true for Howard's film. In fiction, the world as it really is can be better portrayed than by calling constantly for proof.

In the book, apparently the Bible is portrayed not as the Greatest Story ever Told but as the Greatest Story ever Sold. This was also left from the film, to the detriment of its message.

Lets think of Windows and Microsoft as the greatest Story ever Sold. And lets not pretend that the jhad over its story isn't still being waged. Jobs is the largest share holder of Disney for a reason.

Howard's film is excellent. The message is understood by many even though material on Gates is missing and reference to the Bible is removed. This is because in spite of outrage about lack of a disclaimer dismissing the film as fiction, even that dismissal does not mean the work doesnt portray the world as it really is - even in fiction.

We do not need proof to make decisions of who to purchase from, work with, or cooperate and share with. We need only to percieve the world really is.

What woman, after connecting Gates to the film, will be impressed that the charity she has expended effort and financial support for has recieved a large donation from the Gates Foundation. What mother of a school child wants her childs school endebted to Gates or Microsoft in any way once she is aware. Its that whole seeing is believing or believing is seeing debate.

The Gates Foundation and Microsoft are in the awkward position today of needing front charities like those Abramoff set up in order to do good. Anyway, you get the idea. Chew or Spew on it.
