An unintended consequence of the proposed ISP data retention is that Government internet use will be accessable to hackers...and thus will severely backfire on US intelligence and law enforcement use of the internet.

The current status quo where the ISP doesn't retain data long enough to endanger the user's privacy and identity helps the government in covert investigations.

The proposed legislation cuts both ways.
