I'm glad to hear it
You know that a great proportion of the sites concerned are hosted in the US and owned / created by our citizens. Even if they were hosted internationally, they would still originate here.
Guess what? Everyone else knows it too.
While invading countries and dropping bombs may not make us look too attractive to the Word en masse, nothing dose our image worse damage than a web full of porn. Everything else we do can be somehow defended as right, but how can we argue this is good? If we were clearly seen to be taking decisive action to remove this stain from our corporate (national) faces, it would likewise be a credit to our name in the eyes of the World.
Common decency may not be what it once was in our eyes, it's true, but this moral blindness hasn't yet taken hold of the rest of the world. Our enemies, in case you forget, aren't afraid to point to this, clearly shows we are corrupt, decedent, and deserving of their disdain and.... action.
Think now, what are some of the worst manifestations of corruption and decline in the Roman Empire that you know of. Weren't they (greatly) along these lines? Why shame ourselves? Why give ammunition to our enemies? Ashcroft isn't limiting your ability to view this filth, but why should it be "made in USA" rightly or wrongly, in the worlds eyes?
Don't worry, porn won't disappear... but let them say "The Dutch" or "The French" or Germans, or whomever when they are railing against it.
We'd do well to cast this off ourselves.
