arrogance
"Sometimes arrogance gets you into a lot of trouble."

Saddam Hussein had the same problem. Since it appears now that he either (a) had nothing much in the way of WMDs, or (b) was better at hiding them than he was at hiding himself, why all the shenanigans with the weapons inspectors?

He could have avoided his fate, right or wrong, deserved or not, as easily as Martha.
