- Bad things about Apple?
-
Well, I'm certainly no Microsoft zealot, but I can come up with plenty of gripes about Apple. It's just that none of them happen to relate to the subject of this article. What's more, they're probably irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. They're certainly not of any great interest to Apple, any more than Microsoft gives a rip about the gripes I have about their products.
In fact, I'm not sure either company believes they can afford to care...which is not the same thing as saying that they actually can't afford to care what their customers think. It seems to me that both companies could be a helluva lot more responsive.
For example, speaking as a customer, I find it irritating that it's virtually impossible to communicate directly with anyone at Apple about what I consider to be deficiencies in their products. Their phone tech support is pretty good, but forget e-mail. You just can't get them to put anything in writing. You can send them "customer feedback", but it's strictly a one-way channel. They will NOT respond. On the other hand, Microsoft will communicate via e-mail (that is, once you get past the canned responses that don't answer your questions, and you finally connect to someone who has some functional literacy in the English language), but they still refuse to fix known, serious bugs in their software. Their phone support is prohibitively costly.
However, speaking as a shareholder of both companies, I understand that they can't chew up their profits by committing massive resources to customer interactions, especially with users who are largely clueless about how their computers work. I'm not in that category, but they don't know that.
It's still irritating, but there's not much I can do about it. So, I've just learned how to solve my own problems. Griping directly to Microsoft and Apple doesn't solve anything. And of course griping here is a complete waste of time. - Posted by: slingzenarrowzuvowtrayjissforchin Posted on: 05/10/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
