Despite all the FUD in this bill....

...a real solution would be to pass something that MADE providers either give you a flat rate (like consumers have now) or a bandwidth rate (like large bandwith users get), but NOT both. Granted, I wouldn't mind pay a modest monthly fee (say $5) and then pay something reasonable for every MB transfered, but I doubt that the terms "reasonable" and "modest" would ever be used to describe what current US providers would agree to.

The bottom line is that there are a lot of people making WAY too much money on consumer internet access in this country. The flip side is that I doubt it will change without some pretty heavy government regulation.

All the DRM and content protection pork issues can be solved by one thing: LINE ITEM VETO. That is certainly another debate.
