Stability vs. Options
I am judging more on my own experiences in terms of stability, and how it co-exists with other programs. MS Office has been horribly unstable on just about every platform I've seen it on, any year. Open Office, I've had few problems.

No, OO isn't quite as powerful as MS Office. But it doesn't crash Windows for no real reason. And it's free, and doesn't pop-up on you telling you that someone stole your key, and to buy a new one.
