No, stupid is not thinking outside the box and accepting
the fact that nuke is not the way to go. What really lives out in the middle of death valley? The sahara? These are barren waste lands and there are several others available. Barren of any significant life and without irrigation, incapable of sustaining life for very long either. Your limitation you speak of can and will be eventually overcome. It's a matter of time before some braniac finds a way to squeeze more out of less.

Stupid is the fact that greed and pure laziness has kept us from advancing our technology enough to create efficient and powerful vehicles that DON'T rely on fossil fuels.

Alternate energy sources are in their infancy, give them time and the reward can be seen. But nuclear power carries with it too many negative side affects and draw backs, which is why people have been against it for so long. Do the environmental impact study on the half life destruction of expended fuel rods.

Other alternatives are build more efficient lighting systems, green friendly homes and autos. The problem again is greed is preventing this world from moving forward into the true 21st century.

As for your fact about solar again you are not thinking outside the box... orbital power arrays would increase that capacity (which I am pretty sure can be increased in certain parts of the world as well...). You also fail to recognize the power of solar energy to be used as a heat source for closed loop steam turbines that again, can be used to generate electricity.

There are many ways solar can be used and if the money and time are seriously put into it, it will get better, more efficient and cheaper. But greedy SOB's don't see a profit so no investment.
