What else is in Death Valley?
You will need about 400-500 sq miles of solar panels to equal the output of Niagara Falls on both sides or 2900 megawatts. Nothing much lives in the desert and it would provide shade for the lizards. The only enviroment impact is at manufacture.

Wind power is not enviromentally harmful except the high RPM bird choppers that were made 20-30 years ago. The new ones are very efficient and the blades turn at 45 rpm on the ones from Germany. As for beauty, anything is better looking than a refinery.

Nuclear power is also another good option but the cooling systems take up more area than you think. The disposal systems are expensive for the precautions and they take up area also.

The only thing they did not mention on this procedure of light amplification is life expectancy. I bet the silicone is shorter lived due to the concentrated lumens. Cooling will be another problem due to concentration.

Baggins, everything is ultimately solar powered. Why not bypass all the processes and get it directly from the sun or nature itself.
