There are changes to be made.
Like Pagan Jim I agree that there is the possibilities of abuses to be made in the execution of the Patriot Act. Checks and balances are are a must if we expect our rights to be protected equally. However I think the problem is far worse than what Jim suggests. And the balance of power (left vs right) needs some revamping. I propose the following to see to it that lobbyists do not take over the country.

1. Public campaign funding. Take the profit out of the hands of the lobbyists and see what's left.

2. Term Limits. If these "Public Servants" have to live with what the rest of us have to live with they just might decide that their phones can be tapped as well

3. Make Congress a part time job. When one has a job one must justify their existance. The longer these people are in Wash DC they must continually propagate the laws governing the body politic. More laws is not the answer to the problem, especially when they benefit the haves and hardly consider the have-nots.

In the 70's a chocolate bar cost 5 cents. There was a sugar shortage. Chocolate prices rose. When sugar became abundant again candy prices didn't return to their previous price. The same w/ oil. and it seems to me its the same with everything congress touches. Lets get them back into the public sector and out of our "halls"
