Totally Unacceptale
I'm glad to see some of the "mainstream media" (for computers at least) covering this. This has been a HUGE issue for 18 months. Blizzard produced a GREAT game, and spent their money in development, but have DROPPED THE BALL in the support department. If this was April 2005, I might have a LITTLE sympathy for them...but it's April 2006 and "unexpected problems" should be a thing of the LONG past, not all the time.

Blizzard is collecting almost 100 million dollars a month...no matter HOW that is divided, that is a HUGE sum of money that SHOULD allow them to hire competent people, purchase appropriate hardware, and do what needs to be done.

Blizzard's answer to these issues are "server transfers". Instead of FIXING the servers, they try to move people off of the full ones. In the weeks before the transfer was announced, the queues to get in-game were about 150-250. So the week before and during the server transfer for MY server...we were facing 800 person queues (well over an hour) to get in game...and suddenly (although relatively few people left) the queues go away. I strongly belive that Blizzard artifically inflated the queues to "encourage" people to move...

...and then the authentication server...and then the world server...and then, and then, and then...

The quote from the story is ENTIRELY correct, if any other IT manager ran their systems like Blizzard, they would've been out of a job a LONG time ago...

...and the story didn't even mention that the customer support by the company is HORRIBLE...they do NOT communicate with their users other than "we're aware of the problem"...

GREAT game, HORRIBLE support...that's why I call Blizzard...
