when Amazon can patent "one click" as a freakin' technology
when it is just some automating code mostly consisting of dbase
calls, then where will the madness end.
dbase calls are patentable? Seems so.
You completely missed the point of the article. The point is that
Slashdot is a tremendous resource because there are a ton of
educated commentators who bring their expertise (and a bunch
of knuckleheads, but they exist everywhere, pretty much).
The point is that peer review would remove the patent officer
from having to just do patent word searches and allow for an
actual application of prior art searches based on already
deployed products. As it stands, the patent lawyers make their
bones, especially in the software space, based solely on their
application wording. How nebulous can it be while not hitting
any of the existing patents?
Moreover, I think every patent should be related to a product or
a specific application or a specific process.
Why? Because as it stands now, we have patents like that
fabulously ridiculous Burst patent which is such a crock on it's
face that anyone who knows anything about it knows it's crap.
But the patent lawyers know that judges don't have the expertise
to discern the differences that computing professionals see
within plain sight.
The patent system is broken and the idea of a "Slashdot for prior
art" is a brilliant idea, though certainly not original. - Posted by: MacKeyser Posted on: 04/27/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
