That's not really the Lock In I'm thinking of: Lets say you buy an off the shelf payroll system for $500,000 and you spend 1 year implementing. That version works good at first but as things change you need to upgrade. Now you've been paying $75,000 for maintenance and support for 4 years and the new version comes along claiming to do everything you need but comes up short. It doesn't work properly and the support you recieve goes down the tubes. What do you do?

If a mechanic fixing you car screwed you over in a repair you'd go to another mechanic. It would seem that you might do the same with software but you start looking at that million dollars you spent as an investment and will waste more money on the same vapour ware the vendor is peddling instead of looking to some other vendor offering software that actually works.; Posted by: voska Posted on: 03/04/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
