the wifes says that I am a little to "assertive" when it comes to being prepared for the worst. But having witnessed family losing everything and some of them perishing because they were not prepared is a real motivator. A fire raged though our property when I was young, we lost everything and because we didn't have much for survival except a couple of guns, it was pretty hard.
The other thing is I am appalled at the apparent lack of ethics and human caring in this nation. Well at least in the major metropolitan areas where corporations and business's have gotten so large they seem to have forgot how they got there.
I am teaching my children that life is more than money or material items. Those can be replaced easily enough. Life is about loving yourself, your family and your friends. It's about sharing and caring enough to be there for people when they need it. Granted there are some that will attempt to abuse this kindness, and I am preparing my children for this as well. But the bottom line is a community is only as strong as it's weakest relationship. And as shown in Katrina, it's the strong communities that will band together and survive the roving predators.
I find this story not only an insult to the basic truth of what is important but and insult to the human race. The idea that a business is more important that a human being's life, it wrong.
Granted, I have killed while in the military in the line of duty, but I took the lives of people that would have done harm unto hundreds if not thousands of innocents. Am I proud of it? No, but the need was there and the motive was the preservation of "community", ensuring a safe place for families to grow. The loss of a single human life is tragic to say the least, but if the loss of one life means 100 others can survive then it's a tragedy that needs to happen. But the loss of a life because of a business is immoral. So yes I have very strong feelings on this subject and I take the time to educate all that I can about what to do and how to survive in the event of an emergency. No a person can never be fully prepared for everything, but having some form of plan and materials in place is better than nothing at all.
And as a final recommendation, don't live in fear of what may happen. But live in comfort and security that you are prepared for the worst. Living in fear is what our government wants and it's what the terrorists around the world want. I don't live in fear, I live knowing that I am as safe as I can make myself and my family. If the worst should happen then I am ready, and if it doesn't, have I harmed anyone? No but I could sleep easy at night and work with confidence during the day. - Posted by: Linux User 147560 Posted on: 04/18/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
