You have some creative math generating your numbers ...
The use of home projectors doesn't explain the downturn last year in theaters. Both the theaters and DVD rentals saw a downturn in 2005. "Cook said the DVD market, which also saw a slowdown last year in sales, has been relatively firm in the last few months.".

But as for your numbers, I can't figure out the
"$50 for two people to go to the movies is WAY to expensive". I agree, that is too expensive; but I honestly can't figure out how it's possible to spend that much for two to go to the movies. You must be eating a LOT to rack up that kind of a bill. Assuming I paid full rate, and not a matinee, and assuming two large drinks and a large popcorn, I still only come into the $30-$35 range. Too high still, I agree, but it messes up the math on your payback time too. Of course, I usually only go to a matinee, which drops it down closer to $25 or less for two.

Also, I have a life. A movie per week with the quality of what comes out? There are less than a dozen new films per year that I would even consider wanting to see. Turn off your projector, and open a window. Live life, don't just watch the psuedo-lives you see on screen.
