Techboy, you have a valid point. There is a good revenue stream for private source companies from support. However consider this - for every additional software copy that they sell, the cost is almost zero (either the cost of a CD or sometimes not even if that, if s/w is downloaded from an FTP site). However every additional support call from a customer has a significant cost (even if it is outsourced). So if companies like Microsoft charge a good sum for support, there is not a huge margin there. So I stand by my position - private source companies have a vested interest in developing and selling robust software. Open source companies have a vested interest in the community developing a slightly (but not overly) buggy software.
