He's right...
Just because anyone can modify it, release their changes, etc. doesn't mean that their "distro" will be accepted by anyone else. Right now, RedHat is owning the corporate adoption of Linux. And Novell needs to do more to get back on the run in that market. The JBoss acquisition by RH puts Novell/SUSE behind the 8-ball, and sets RH up for further domination. Customers who formerly might have stacked JBoss on SUSE Server might now be inclined to go JBoss on RH, just assuming that it will end up being a cleaner fit, and that the "one stop shop" will be a better deal and a single point of support.

In short, you're thinking of "monopoly" from the wrong angle. All that has to happen is for one distro/product, whether OSS or not, to achieve such critical mass that most people will not consider another competing distro. In the enterprise space, RH is pretty darn close to that, and this deal may seal it.
