Open Source Dilemma
A "private source" company is driven to make good software because it makes money from the software license. If the software is buggy, the cost of support goes up. Since private-source companies do not derive significant income from support, they are driven to develop robust software. An open-source company on the other hand derives its income from support. If the software is robust, customers will not buy support. On the other hand, if the software is too buggy, people will not download the software even if it is free. This is the "open-source dilemma". If you recognize this, you will realize that though open source companies have a place under the sun, they cannot grow beyond certain point.
