Where are the strategies similiar?
JBoss is open source. The complete source is available under the
GPL. Red Hat GPLs all of the code it develops. Red Hat makes all
of the source used by its RHEL available to everyone and anyone.

Red Hat provides support services and they charge a fee for it.
Mr Matusow only point is he is clueless about the Red Hat model
and how it diverges from the MS model.

"The software stack is another way Red Hat can assure that
people buy its products. They will work well together. Sound
familiar?"

Red Hat is all about selecting open source solutions and
bundling them in a distribution that encourages people to use it
and pay a fee for the service. It does sound familiar as it is the
basis of all open source *nix (though some don't charge
anything and are community supported), but it is not at all like
MS.

"Red Hat is looking for a way to persuade buyers not to obtain
the software for free."

No Red Hat is looking for a proposition that enables them to sell
more services. The software will still be available for free and it
is guaranteed by the GPL. Piracy has nothing to do with the Red
Hat model.

Your square peg simply won't fit in the round hole.
