... will read Software $0; Services $2,000. This is not in any way similar to a bill reading Software $2,000; Services $0. To the customer they are so completely different that any comparison is ludicrous.

As noted in my original post, please reread the article. Do you see very much in the discussion that would be anomalous if Red Hat were in the business of selling software? In fact, doesn't the article appear to be making the assumption that Red Hat is in the software business?

My subject, by the way, isn't Microsoft. It's the not-quite hypocrisy of Red Hat's self-description as being anything other than a software company.

"Not-quite" because I don't think the company is being false about its connections with open source advocates. But that connection is part of a carefully calculated business strategy. Business, as in profits and share price.
