Piracy?

"This article largely forgets to include the myth that open source
companies are selling services."

Typical of ZDNet reporting standards on the the open source
issue. However it is not a myth, Red Hat sells services. Go to
centos.org if you'd like the same RHEL code base for free (but
without the RHEL support and certification).

"When the business models of Microsoft and Red Hat are
considered similar, anyone can recognize that the companies are
in the business of selling software."

And who said that? Ah Jason Matusow, Microsoft's director of
corporate standards. Wow another MS executive without a clue.

"Both models have a similar problem."

Both is piracy if it is stolen. However nothing stops repackaging
of the source in the case of open source. Unlike with windows
(and the well documented market abuse by MS) open source has
plenty of competition because the source is open!
