McNealy is a horrible CEO. Kept hiring useless
people and wouldn't fire them. Originally, they
got good engineers but during the boom, they
hired anyone who asked for a handout.

In addition, they bought lot of useless
companies for lot more than they were worth ( if
they were worth anything at all). Imagine if
they had instead bought AMD when its market cap
had dipped into single digits ! And yes, buying
back their stock when the PPS fell to $3 would
make their earnings look much better.

They also poorly handled Java - they let ibm
dictate terms too much, refused to use a
professional looking UI toolkit for java ( so it
could be popular on the desktop) and so on.

They also made mistakes with opteron
( initially ) and linux.
