adware
Sounds like commercial advertising for tv. Once it becomes acceptable enough, adware will be on every program. The option to have it or not will be absent. The justification will be the same as t.v. was. Originally it was to support a broadcast that was free. Then when people started paying for it through the cable companies the ads stayed because who could give up such a great source of revenue. I doubt the software industry will see it much differently. Imagine getting ads as you work away in Excel. That would suck big time. I think resisting this trend early is the only real solution.
