Anyone bother to think that perhaps some brite and talented people are unhappy because they are being underutilzed or perhaps the company culture rewards those who play politics instead of good hard work?

Yes, there are slackers out there that aren't as talented as the lint in my pocket.

But in my experience I've known many talented professionals, engineers and such that have ended up going to the competition by finding work on company time and ended up thriving to become shinning stars at their new positions. It's actually a bigger loss to the company they left. It does happen but it's very rare to make policy or cultural changes in a company that makes the most sense. Just my opinion.
