Maybe it was your attitude?
Maybe you are too superior? In case you never noticed, people don't like people who act superior to them, whether they are or not. The superior people alienate others. Often a superior person is seen as a bad manager, as they will be unable to handle the inferior people in their dep't.
And I'd guess that if you asked a pile of managers, they will all tell you about the bozos they had to suck up to before they finally got their break.
My guess is you won't get promoted because you can't or won't play the game. Not that that should be a valid reason, frankly it is crap. But that is how it is. So enjoy your surfing!
