Promotion to your level of incompetence
is what we called it in the Army. Just like the Peter Princilple, you get promoted as long as you do good, when you no longer can do the job, you are stuck there, as they can't send you DOWN the ladder to the job you could do, so you just stay at the job you can't do and screw everything up. Earning more money, I might add.
