Peter Principle or Dilbert Principle?
The Peter Principle is that people rise to their level of incompetence... and stop.

The Dilbert Principle is that people are promoted to get them out of the way so the work can be completed.

The problem with the Peter Principle is that incompetence is not an especial bar to promotion. The problem with the Dilbert Principle is that everyone knows the person promoted today is looking for progress reports tomorrow.

Business schools should pay more attention to this essential topic.
