Sounds like sour grapes to me.
IAC is basically just whining here. The bottom line is that they have no idea exactly what kind of data was on that computer. They were only hoping to use whatever they could find to make the employee's life as miserable as possible.

The employee may have had a good reason to delete files, if for no other reason than personal privacy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, spare me the crap about the computer belonging to IAC with no reason to have personal information on it. Very few employees on the planet use a business computer strictly for business.

It seems that IAC is seriously determined to hang this guy any way they can. I guess if the company's data was all that important, they should have required regular backups to be sent in. That's just common sense.
