- Inventions and patents
- Many comments here regarding patents suggest that if there were no patents, inventors would be free to make money by selling their inventions without fear and without conflict. This is similar to suggesting that if there were no private property, and rule of law to support it, everyone would get their fair share. If you accept the concepts of rule of law and private property, you ought to be able to accept patent laws and patents. Patents really aren't all that restrictive compared to property right laws. If someone owns a piece of land, they and their family can hang onto it as long as they want. A patent reverts to the public after twenty years from the time it was filed. If property were treated this way, we'd have a helluva lot more parks.
