Why you are wrong...
I happen to have met the gentleman that patented the photocopying process many years back. He worked out of his own garage building prototypes and conducting experiments until he had it working. (As he told me the story.)

While he was able to afford a garage work shop, there simply was no way he could afford to build a manufacturing plant or finance the need parts to build a commercial copier. He instead licensed his patent and as they say, "did nicely by it".

Now according to your post this should not have been allowed to happen. He should not have been able to profit from three years of "tinkering" with his idea. He should have gotten what? Nothing???
